Until the 10th century, China was primarily a “mat level” culture, meaning that people sat on platforms, on the floor, and on various forms of stools. Chairs are thought to have been brought to China from India around the 7th or 8th Century. The Chinese then developed some of the most elegant, sculptural forms of chairs seen anywhere in the world. The examples here are beautifully executed and among the best available.
These our just a few of many chairs in inventory and can be viewed at the showroom on Germantown Avenue. Email me if you have any questions about any of the pieces on this page
